Why It Doesn't Sound Like a Chipmunk
Raising the pitch of a voice the simple way moves everything up together — the note and the shape of the throat that makes a voice sound like a person. That is the chipmunk sound. Here the two are separate: Pitch moves the note, Voice character moves the formants. A female voice lifts the pitch by five semitones and the formants by only three, which is why it reads as a different speaker rather than a sped-up one. The Chipmunk preset moves both equally, on purpose.
Robot, Telephone and Radio
The three effects work on their own or on top of a voice. Robot rings the voice against a low tone through a short metallic echo. Telephone keeps only the narrow band a phone line carries, with a little grit. Radio is a wider band driven harder, like an old speaker. Try Deep with Robot for a classic film villain.
For Characters, Games and Fun
Voice a character in a radio play, an animation or a game mod; make a robot announcement for a video; send a friend a voice note as a chipmunk. A changed voice is an effect, not a disguise: a shift like this can largely be turned back, and the way someone speaks stays recognisable — do not rely on it to hide who is talking.
